The Hungarian conductor and choir director, Kálmán Strausz, studied at the Budapest Music Academy "Liszt Ferenc". His Professors were István Párkai and Zoltán Vásárhelyi.
He worked first as music editor at the Hungarian Radio, later as section leader for broadcasting of classical music at the Hungarian Television.
He had been director of the Budapest Youth Choir since 1977. He was also teaching conductors–to–be at the Budapest Music Academy.
He was director of the world–famous Kodály–Choir of Debrecen between 1985–1991.
He founded the Budapest International Choir Competition in 1988.
He was director of the Mixed Choir of the Hungarian Radio and Television between 1992-2008.

He became director of the Honvéd Male Choir in 2010.
Assistant to Sir Georg Solti in Berlin and participant of his very last CD–recording in the summer 1997.
As conductor, he had concerts in Italy, Belgium, Japan, Israel, USA, Greece, Finland, Netherlands, Austria (Konzerthaus/Vienna, Salzburger Festival) and Germany.
